about

BBE Music unveils the second single from forthcoming David Bowie tribute ‘Modern Love’, a subtle and introspective take on ‘Sound & Vision’ by Helado Negro.

Originally released as the first single from Bowie’s 1977 album ‘Low’, ‘Sound & Vision’ represented the artist’s gradual recovery from drug addiction. He said the song was about “wanting to be put in a little cold room with omnipotent blue on the walls and blinds on the windows.”

An American electronic musician with strong Latin roots, Roberto Carlos Lange (aka Helado Negro) is a prolific and versatile creative who has previously also worked on both visual art and sound sculpture projects, so it’s hard to imagine a more appropriate Bowie song for him to cover.

As the artist puts it: “the cover I imagined was something living in between sleep and awake where sound and vision dominate. Residue from your dream state mixed in with waking up and stirring into what the day will be.“

Helado Negro’s version of ‘Sound & Vision’ is built upon his distinctive lush, lo-fi electronic arrangement, while his subtle vocal delivery really draws out the introverted, solitary nature of the song.

Due for release on May 28th 2021, ‘Modern Love, A David Bowie Tribute Album’ also features Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Kit Sebastian, Jeff Parker, Sessa, The Hics, Khruangbin, Nia Andrews, Foxtrott, L’Rain, Eddie Chacon & John Carroll Kirby, Jonah Mutono, Bullion, Meshell Ndegeocello, Matthew Tavares and We Are KING.
